Mangalore: Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport (MIA) seized 1,625 grams of gold worth Rs 91.35 lakh from passengers between February 1 and 15.
The gold was seized from five male passengers arriving from Dubai and Bahrain, a customs release said.
Gold was smuggled through a variety of methods, including sticking it in the handle of a trolley bag, in the rectum, in the mouth and as a thin layer in a cardboard box.
Officers seized 5,100 US dollars and 2,420 pounds worth of foreign currency notes from a man. This is equivalent to Rs 6,54,750. He was trying to smuggle from India to Dubai via Air India Express Flight No IX 383.
Further investigation is underway.
