The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a breakthrough in a bribery case that has been under investigation for some time now. The CBI has arrested an income tax official, Johri, for his involvement in a bribery case worth ₹30 lakh. According to reports, Johri allegedly aided his senior officer, Additional Commissioner Santosh Karnani, to escape a trap that was set by the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in October 2022. Johri was posted in Ahmedabad at the time.
The incident allegedly involved Johri creating a commotion during the trap proceedings, which allowed Karnani to escape. Following the incident, Johri allegedly threw two mobile phones into the Sabarmati river in an attempt to destroy evidence related to the case.
However, the CBI managed to retrieve the two mobile handsets from the Sabarmati river after a meticulous operation that utilized state-of-the-art diving equipment and sonar technology. The recovered mobiles were instrumental in building a case against Johri.
The CBI spokesperson stated that Johri has been charged based on a case that was referred by the Gujarat government in October 2022. The case alleges that Johri facilitated the escape of Santosh Karnani, who was being investigated for bribery. The CBI has not provided any further details about the case, and it is unclear at this time what led to the bribery allegations or who was involved in the case.
Johri’s arrest is a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the bribery case. It sends a strong message that those who engage in corrupt activities will not be allowed to get away with it, and the law will catch up with them sooner or later. The CBI has a reputation for being an efficient and effective law enforcement agency, and its success in this case is a testament to its commitment to upholding the law and bringing criminals to justice.
