New Delhi: On Saturday night, a 39-year-old delivery worker named Pankaj Thakur was beaten to death in Delhi’s Ranjee Nagar in a brutal act of road rage. According to the police, Thakur was attacked by two men, Manish Kumar (19) and Lalchand (20), following an argument over not clearing the way for a car.
Thakur was found lying unconscious in an alley near Ranjeet Nagar Main Market, with his scooter next to him. Local residents immediately rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. There were several injury marks on his body.
The documents he was carrying helped police in identifying Thakur, who worked as a helper in a shop and home-delivered groceries. He leaves behind a wife, a son, and a daughter. The incident was captured on CCTV footage in the vicinity. The footage shows two men getting out of a cab and arguing with Thakur before brutally assaulting him, causing him to collapse to the ground unconscious.
After tracking down the cab using its number, the police identified the accused. When the police reached their homes, the duo had fled. A massive search operation was launched, following which the two were arrested on Sunday.
During the interrogation, the accused told police that they were driving through the alley when they saw Thakur standing in the way with his scooter. They asked him to give way, which led to an argument and then an altercation. The two young men got off the car and pushed Thakur’s scooter, leading to a fight. As Thakur collapsed, Manish and Lalchand fled the spot.
The incident has sparked outrage in the city, with people condemning the brutal act of violence. The police have assured the public that strict action will be taken against the accused. The case is still under investigation.
