The first arrest occurred when a police party from the Police Post Wachi established a checkpoint near Petrol Pump Melhura Wachi. It was during this operation that they apprehended a drug peddler identified as Shahid Afridi Shah, son of Gh Hassan Shah and a resident of Melhura. The thorough search conducted by the officers led to the recovery of 177 grams of Charas, 04 grams of Brown Sugar, and a sum of Rs.10,000, which is believed to be the ill-gotten gains from illicit narcotics activities.
Similarly, another successful arrest took place when a police party from the Shopian Police Station established a checkpoint at Sofanaman near Pinjora Crossing. At this location, they detained a drug peddler known as Ab Gani Monchi, son of Ab Rehman Monchi and a resident of Rakh Chedren. Upon conducting a meticulous search, the officers seized 155 grams of Charas from his possession, further denting the drug supply chain.
Meanwhile, in a relentless pursuit of justice, a police party from the Tangmarg Police Station set up a checkpoint near Hotel Mahajan in Main Market Tangmarg. It was during this operation that they successfully apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Khursheed Ahmad Bakshi, son of Mohd Rafiq Bakshi and hailing from Watalpora Tangmarg. The search conducted by the vigilant officers led to the recovery of 15 grams of Charas, adding to the mounting evidence against the drug trade.
Moreover, in Kulgam, a police party from the PP Mirbazar stationed themselves at a checkpoint in Furrah, where they intercepted a suspicious individual carrying a nylon bag. Realizing the presence of the police, the individual attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended. The suspect has been identified as Arbaaz Ahmad Mir, son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir and a resident of Furrah. A subsequent search of his possessions uncovered a staggering 4 kilograms of Cannabis Powder, reinforcing the determination to curb the drug menace in the region.
All the drug peddlers arrested during these operations have been promptly transferred to the respective police stations, where they will remain in custody as legal proceedings continue. Cases have been registered under the relevant sections of the law, and investigations have been initiated to uncover any further links to the drug trade.
