Following the implementation of operational cameras, a thorough reassessment of the speed limit in the state was conducted, resulting in a comprehensive revision. It was observed that the existing speed limit, which had been set in 2014, required redefinition to align with the evolving transportation landscape and ensure enhanced safety measures. Consequently, the decision was made to update and redefine the permissible speed limits for various categories of vehicles on state roads, taking into consideration the national notification.
The revised speed limits for vehicles with up to 9 seats are as follows: 110 km/h on 6-lane national highways, 100 km/h (90 km/h) on 4-lane national highways, other national highways, and major city roads (M.C.), 90 km/h (85 km/h) on roads and 4-lane state highways, 80 km/h (80 km/h) on other state highways and major district roads, and 70 km/h (70 km/h) on other roads. Additionally, the maximum speed limit for vehicles on city roads has been reduced from 70 km/h to 50 km/h.
For light-medium heavy motor passenger vehicles with more than nine seats, the revised speed limits are as follows: 95 km/h on 6-lane national highways, 90 km/h (70 km/h) on 4-lane national highways, other national highways, and major city roads (M.C.), 85 km/h (65 km/h) on roads and 4-lane state highways, 80 km/h (65 km/h) on other state highways and major district roads, 70 km/h (60 km/h) on other roads, and 50 km/h on city roads.
Furthermore, for light-medium heavy category goods vehicles, the revised speed limits are as follows: 80 km/h (70 km/h) on 6-lane and 4-lane highways, 70 km/h (65 km/h) on other national highways and 4-lane state highways, 65 km/h (60 km/h) on other state highways and major district roads, 60 km/h on other roads, and 50 km/h on urban roads.
Taking into account the frequency of road accidents involving two-wheelers in the state, their maximum speed limit has been reduced from 70 km/h to 60 km/h to mitigate risks and enhance safety measures. However, the maximum speed limit for three-wheelers and school buses will remain unchanged at the existing limit of 50 km/h.
It is important to note that these revised rules and speed limits have been implemented with the integration of artificial intelligence (A.I.) technology in the state, enabling more accurate monitoring and enforcement of traffic regulations. By reassessing and redefining the speed limit, the authorities aim to promote a safer and more secure transportation environment for all road users in the state, ensuring a significant reduction in accidents and promoting responsible driving practices.
