Tuticorin: Under the guidance of Tuticorin District Superintendent of Police, Dr. L. Balaji Saravanan, a social awareness program titled “Looking for Change” was organized in the areas encompassing Thalamuthunagar, Attur, and Kurumpur police stations. So far, the police have conducted 3298 “Seek Change” awareness meetings district-wide, with approximately 93,847 individuals taking the pledge. On 27.07.2023, an awareness program was held in the Cherthaboomangalam area under Attur Police Station, where Assistant Inspector Mr. Shanmugasundaram and the police from Thalamuthunagar, Inspector Mr. Ramakrishnan and Assistant Inspector Mr. Arul Moses, along with the police from Kurumbur and Athur stations, conducted the event.
The program aimed to educate the public, including youth, about various helpline numbers (1098, 1091) available for women and children, the repercussions of drug use like ganja and tobacco, and the laws related to sexual crimes, POCSO, Child Marriage Prohibition Act, Child Labor Prevention Act, Dowry Prevention Act, and the Kavalan SOS App. During the event, a significant part involved participants taking a pledge in the presence of the police. The pledge focused on creating a Tuticorin district free from caste and religious differences, eliminating negative thoughts and blaming tendencies, promoting positive thinking, and ensuring the protection of women, children, and all citizens. Additionally, the attendees pledged not to use any deadly weapons, such as knives and sickles, under any circumstances, with the collective aim of establishing a crime-free Tuticorin district.
