Hyderabad: In the vicinity of LB Nagar under the jurisdiction of SVU Campus Police Station, a female resident holds the position of chief coordinator within Praja Pragati Trust. A fellow trustee, who resides in Chennai, oversees matters pertaining to foreign funds and frequently engages in communication regarding trust affairs via email. On the date 25.05.2023, malicious cyber actors managed to compromise his email account. They subsequently dispatched an email requesting a transfer of 5 lakhs to his Canara Bank account. Then, on 29.05.2023, once again utilizing the same email, they demanded 11 lakhs, which was duly dispatched.
The trustee clarified that he had not initiated any communication soliciting funds. Unfortunately, by that point, cybercriminals had already extracted a total of 16 lakhs through their actions. Responding to the woman’s complaint, a case was officially filed at SVU Campus Police Station. Cyber security experts in Tirupati meticulously investigated the case from all angles. As a result of their efforts, on 21.08.2023, a sum of Rs.11,60,320/- was successfully reimbursed into Praja Pragati Trust’s Union Bank account.
DGP Mr. K.V. Rajendranath Reddy IPS commends the Tirupati police for delivering prompt justice to the victim of cybercrime.
