Virudhunagar: In Virudhunagar, specifically in the Kallurani vicinity near Aruppukkottai, a couple is engaged in wage labor—both the husband and wife. Their 8-year-old daughter is enrolled in the 3rd grade at a government school within the same locality. During a time when the parents were both at work, the girl was left home alone. It was during this period that Muniyaswamy (32), a relative of the girl, was present. He lured the girl with the promise of purchasing cookies and chocolates, subsequently subjecting her to sexual harassment. The parents of the girl became aware of the incident and promptly filed a report at the Aruppukkottai All Women Police Station. Law enforcement has taken action by initiating proceedings under the POCSO Act against Muniyaswamy for his involvement in the sexual harassment of the young girl. The matter is currently under investigation.
