BENGALURU: A woman in Bengaluru filed a false molestation charge against a man in anger and later withdrew the case the next day. Police said, an incident of road rage involving a woman motorist quickly snowballed into a molestation case. But the woman withdrew her complaint the next day stating that she had pressed the charges in anger. On March 19 around 12.20 pm Uma’s (name changed) car met with an accident with another car driven by Ramesh (name changed) on Water Tank Road in Kumaraswamy Layout in Bengaluru. Ramesh was driving his mother to taking his mother to visit a doctor. Both the sides blamed each other for negligence and an argument continued. Traffic was held for few minutes as both the persons were arguing in the middle of the road, a few passersby and other motorists came to pacify them, but to no avail. As Ramesh left the place as he was heading to a hospital. Uma assuming that people who hit her car had supported Ramesh later went to Kumarswamy Layout Police station where she filed a complaint saying that she was manhandled in the middle of the road. Ramesh was taken into custody the next day based on the car registration number and a case was registered by Police under IPC Sec 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman). Later Kumarswamy Layout Police told Uma to come to police station to identify the accused. By then Uma who had realized her mistake that she had falsely pressed the charges against Ramesh due to anger realized her mistake and came to Police station, Police said. Uma apologised to Police and to Ramesh saying that she had lodged the complaint under stress and withdrew the complaint, Police added. Police said, “People must not misuse the law and must realise that it will spoil other people’s lives”.
