CHENNAI: On Wednesday evening the Chennai Police arrested two persons who were in possession of one crore rupees in demonetized currencies. A Police patrol team noticed suspiciously moving black car in which the duo were travelling up and down on the first main road at Shenoy Nagar, Aminjikarai. According to a senior Police officer, “The vehicle kept driving in the stretch more than twice which raised suspicion and when the patrol team asked them to stop the car tried to sped away. Police nabbed the suspects after a brief chase”. Police seized Rs 1.02 crore – Rs 86 lakh in Rs 1,000 currencies and Rs 16 lakh in Rs 500 denomination that was found in a black bag in the car’s rear seat. When Police interrogated, Ramesh and Vijaykumar were understood to have told Police that the money belonged to a businessman of Tambaram. During interrogation the men met a broker and exchanged the currencies near a school at Shenoy Nagar. Police said, “These two men were roaming around awaiting the broker’s arrival as they feared that they will get caught if they waited at one place”. The two were doing sand and gravel business. Police said, Ramesh of Salem resides at Saligramam and Vijaykumar of Pollachi, stays at Mogappair. Police registered a case and launched a hunt to arrest the broker and the businessman.
