Madurai: In Periyur, Madurai District, within the jurisdiction of the Periyur Police Station, specific information reached the police regarding the daily illicit sale of lottery tickets prohibited by the Tamil Nadu government. Acting on the directives of the Madurai District Superintendent of Police, a specialized team, supervised by Sub-Inspector Mr. Sathyavendan on November 26, 2023, closely monitored the situation. Rahim, the son of Senimoozaurauthar from Subramani Kovil Street, Peraiyur, was apprehended for vending prohibited lottery tickets in the Peraiyur market area. A total of 496 banned Kerala lottery tickets and Rs.1350/- in cash were confiscated from him. During interrogation, Rahim disclosed that he was involved in the buying and selling of these tickets.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Nagurkani, son of Govindanpatti in Uttamapalayam taluk, Theni district. He admitted to engaging in the trade and was found in possession of 240 prohibited lottery tickets, along with commission money amounting to Rs.740. The continuous sale of these banned lottery tickets poses a threat to the livelihoods of regular buyers. Consequently, two individuals have been detained for the illegal sale of lottery tickets prohibited by the Tamil Nadu government. In response to the directive from the Madurai District Superintendent of Police, the presence of patrolling officers has been heightened to prevent any recurrence of such criminal activities.
