Chandigarh: A team from Chandigarh Police’s crime branch and anti-narcotics task force apprehended Surjeet Kumar, 32, from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, and Jitender, 28, from Uttar Pradesh. The two had been declared proclaimed offenders in 2017 and 2023, respectively, for failing to appear in court related to cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Surjeet was found with 4.90 gm of smack on January 7, 2017, and charged under the NDPS Act at IT Park police station. After being released on bail, he missed court dates, prompting PO proceedings against him. He was arrested on April 10 and placed in judicial custody.
Jitender was caught with 18 gm of heroin on May 4, 2020, leading to an NDPS case against him at the Sector-11 police station. After securing bail, he also missed court appearances, resulting in him being declared a PO. He was arrested in Sector 43 on April 5 and also placed in judicial custody.
