Chandigarh: After receiving a tip-off, police set a trap to arrest Sajid, also known as Chota, along with Ramji, Rajan, Parteek, Swaranjot, and Jitender. Sajid, aged 40 and residing in Janta Colony, is the leader of the gang. The remaining suspects, all residents of Mohali, work as scrap dealers and taxi drivers, according to the Chandigarh Police.
On Thursday, police apprehended six men who were planning to carry out a robbery in the city before the Lok Sabha elections. A stash of sharp-edged weapons, iron rods, cutters, and blades was found in their possession. The accused were detained while plotting a dacoity in the forested area of Sector 25 in their Mahindra Bolero Pikup. They had also scouted Sectors 22 and 24 as part of their plan, the police said, noting that the suspects had a history of involvement in multiple robbery and dacoity cases.
A case under Sections 399 (preparation for dacoity) and 402 (assembly for committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code was filed at the Sector 11 police station. The accused were brought before a court and remanded to two days of police custody.
