Bengaluru: In order to enhance the traffic navigation system in Bengaluru, the traffic police have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mappls MapmyIndia, a tech company. The company is developing a navigation app specifically for Bengaluru, which will provide real-time updates for commuters. The app aims to assist users in finding the most efficient route to their destination by offering alternatives with lower traffic congestion. Additionally, it will offer continuous updates on traffic conditions, road closures, and other relevant road information. This app is intended to serve as an alternative to Google Maps, tailored specifically for Bengaluru commuters. A senior police officer stated, “This navigation app will not only aid traffic police in identifying congestion and resolving it in real-time but also offer commuters alternative routes when their usual path is congested.
Furthermore, it will provide updates on potholes, roadblocks, and maintenance activities, thereby saving time.” Moreover, Bengaluru traffic police employ AI-integrated cameras to monitor traffic violations. At a recent event, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar highlighted the challenges of managing traffic in Bengaluru due to the influx of thousands of new vehicles daily. He emphasized the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor vehicle movements and collaborate with the BBMP to develop strategies for better traffic management. Officials are also studying traffic management systems in developed nations to implement similar approaches in Bengaluru.
