Chandigarh: Law Enforcement Authorities reported a significant burglary at a residence in Sector 20, where thieves managed to abscond with a substantial sum of foreign currency, estimated to be upwards of Rs. 1 lakh. The incident came to light when Chand Verma, the brother of the victim, Summi Parvana, alerted the police on a Wednesday morning. Verma had received a distressing call from a concerned neighbor, who had noticed a broken lock at Parvana’s house. Upon reaching the scene, Verma found the main door ajar and the interior in disarray, with belongings scattered haphazardly, including an iron cupboard.
Parvana, who currently resides in England with her family, provided confirmation over the phone of the items pilfered during the burglary. Among the stolen possessions were 1,000 British pounds, Rs. 15,000 in cash, and a State Bank of India passbook, all stored within the raided cupboard.
In response to the incident, authorities swiftly registered a case under Sections 380 (theft in a dwelling house) and 454 (lurking house-trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 19 police station. The investigation into this audacious burglary is ongoing, as law enforcement endeavors to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen goods; ensuring justice is served for the victims.
