Chennai: The age-old dictum ‘police is your friend’ was stressed in a different way on Sunday, when the top officials of Chennai police force, including commissioner A K Viswanathan, celebrated Friendship Day with people. At an event at Elliots beach at Besant Nagar on Sunday evening, Viswanathan interacted with the public and asked them to approach the police without any fear or doubt.
“We are here to serve you. We are your true friends. You can rely on us,” he said and requested the people to make use of the recently launched online complaint system.
He also presented mementoes to social activists and office-bearers of residents welfare associations. “We are so happy to meet you all here and we are planning such meetings on a regular basis,” he added.
Crime records bureau additional director general of police Seema Agarwal (wife of the commissioner), additional commissioners and other top officials were present on the occasion.
A few days ago, the Tamil Nadu government announced that the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) project has been successfully implemented in all the 1,913 FIR registering police stations/units of the state police.
Making use of the system, the government said in a statement, a citizen can lodge a complaint to the police sitting at the comfort of home through the facility of online complaint registration.]]>
