Rachakonda: In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Maheshwaram Zone, along with Balapur police, apprehended a father-son duo involved in illegal drug trade.
Hanif Shah, an illiterate resident of Madhya Pradesh, supports his family of eight children by running a scrap shop. Due to their meager income, they recently transitioned into the cosmetics business with his third son, Siddiq Shah. Despite initial success, the cosmetics venture failed, leading them to seek alternative sources of income. This search for financial stability led them down the path of illegal drug trade.
The accused confessed that drug peddling yields good income and they developed contacts with local drug peddlers. They established a connection with a supplier Montu from Pratapghad district in Rajasthan. The duo purchased heroin at a low price from a supplier and intended to sell it at a significantly higher price in Hyderabad. Accordingly, they acquired 100 grams of heroin for Rs.6,00,000/- from the source at Ratlam, concealed it in plastic covers in their bags, and came to Hyderabad for resale to their known sources. On 26-07-2024, during evening hours, the SOT Maheshwaram Zone team along with Balapur police apprehended the accused persons near Iman Enclave, Airport Restaurant, Balapur Village, and recovered heroin, cash, and mobile phones from their possession. Both Hanif Shah and Siddiq Shah admitted their involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Efforts are ongoing to identify the consumers and apprehend the absconding source/main peddler.
An appeal is made to the public and students, stating that procuring, selling, transporting, and consuming banned narcotic substances and drugs is a crime, punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years, or even the death penalty, according to Section 31 A of the NDPS Act. The public is urged to assist the police in curbing this menace.
These arrests were made under the direct supervision of Mr. G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, and the guidance of Mr. K. Muralidhar, DCP, SOT, LB Nagar-Maheshwaram, with the assistance of SOT and Balapur police personnel.
