The Special Judge for CBI cases in Kolkata has sentenced Shri Chandan Biswas, who was the Telecom Office Assistant & Cashier at BSNL Kolkata, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 25,000 in a case involving fraudulent activities with BSNL. The CBI registered the case on 30.05.2003, alleging that Chandan Biswas, in his official capacity, conspired with an unknown person to defraud BSNL. It was claimed that he abused his position and fraudulently caused a loss of Rs. 11,00,926/- to BSNL. After completing the investigation, the charge sheet was filed against him on 31.01.2005. Following a trial, the court convicted and sentenced him accordingly. The conviction resulted from a thorough investigation and effective prosecution by the CBI team, who presented credible evidence that, was upheld by the Hon’ble Trial Court.
