North and Middle Andaman: In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Billiground Police Station team carried out an extensive search operation in and around Curtbert Bay, leading to the discovery of a large quantity of a suspected psychotropic substance, likely heroin, weighing 2.470 kg. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately Rs.16 crore.
On August 24, 2024, a team led by SI MV Shiju Kumar, SHO of Billiground Police Station, and supported by ASIs M S Muthu, Diana, and Rajni Babu, along with HC Bawali and PCs Mustafa, Sujan, and Abhijeet, arrived at the targeted location. During a thorough search in the secluded area of Curtbert Bay, the team uncovered an unclaimed plastic bucket containing six packets labeled in a foreign language. Upon inspection and testing, the packets were confirmed to contain heroin, a prohibited psychotropic substance, with a total weight of 2.470 kg.
The seized items were confiscated in accordance with all legal procedures, and a formal investigation has been initiated. Given that the quantity seized exceeds the commercial threshold, an FIR has been registered at Billiground Police Station under the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in this illegal drug trade.
This operation highlights the relentless efforts of the North & Middle Andaman District Police to combat drug trafficking and maintain law and order in the region.
