<![CDATA[AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad(ATS) on Tuesday arrested Pradeep Bera, a resident of Kolkata for supplying the homeopathic medications 'Thuja' and 'Bryonia' to bootlegger Sheela Rana and her daughter Nimisha, which they used to add to their liquor. These medications usually contained 90% ethanol, but the batch used by Rana had methanol instead. Last January, six people had died after consuming this spurious liquor in Surat. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Ramesh Faldu (ATS) , before Bera's arrest from Kolkata, four accused were arrested by Surat Police which included Sheela Rana, Nimisha, Bharat Shah and Nandu Dulal Deb. "Sheela and Nimisha would get the homeopathic preparation from Bharat Shah, a medical store owner. Shah revealed to Surat police that Deb used to supply him this drug, apparently used as an alternative remedy for joint pains, from Kolkata. According to a senior ATS official Shah said Deb ran illegal manufacturing units in Kolkata to produce the medication". On getting the details from Bharat Shah, Deb was nabbed. He said that he does not own any manufacturing unit but sourced the medication from one Pradeep Bera. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) then camped in Kolkata and with the help from local police tracked down Pradeep Bera and arrested him. From Bera's interrogation it emerged that he doesn't own any illegal manufacturing unit. Either would buy the drug from all over West Bengal and supply it to Deb, who in turn sold it to Bharat Shah in Surat. He was handed over to Surat police for further interrogation.]]>
