Karnataka, Ballari: In a comprehensive anti-gambling operation conducted across Ballari district during the Diwali festival season, police have arrested 810 individuals and registered 130 cases. The raids, carried out between August 30 and November 3, resulted in the seizure of Rs. 16 lakhs from various gambling operations. The crackdown targeted both urban and rural areas of the district, where temporary gambling dens had proliferated during the festive period.
Despite stern warnings from authorities, gambling activities saw a surge during the festival, with participants coming from both within the district and neighboring regions, including parts of Andhra Pradesh. Law enforcement officials noted that some residents were found renting out their homes as temporary gambling venues. A senior police officer confirmed that all arrested individuals will face legal consequences, highlighting the department’s commitment to curbing illegal gambling activities during festive seasons.
