Assam, Makum: Acting on an FIR filed by Oil India Limited (OIL) at the Makum Police Station, police have arrested four individuals and seized a vehicle in connection with crude oil theft.
The accused have been identified as Amarjyoti Neog, Pradip Gohain, Huntu Baruah, and Bhola Yadav.
Addressing the media, ASP (HQ) Mrinmoy Das stated that following reports of consistent crude oil pilferage from OIL fields over the past two months, police conducted a large-scale operation that led to the arrests. Among those apprehended is a manager involved in highway construction.
The manager, Yadav, admitted that the stolen crude oil was being mixed with bitumen for highway construction purposes. Police also seized a vehicle (registration number AS 02CC 7389) and 18 drums of crude oil.
A case has been registered at Makum Police Station under case number 46/2024, Section 303 of BNS, and Section 15 of the Petrol-Mineral-Pipeline Act.
