West Bengal, Baruipur: The incident occurred over eight years ago, on October 7, 2016, at approximately 10:30 PM. Two individuals, Araf Sheikh and Tabarak Gazi, forcibly entered the victim’s home by breaking through a bamboo door. They sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene. The following day, a complaint was lodged at Canning Police Station in Baruipur District, and the investigation was initially led by Sub-Inspector Ramesh Chandra Das, later taken over by Dhruba Das, who was the SDPO of Canning at the time. Throughout the investigation, authorities gathered various forms of scientific and other evidence. Both accused were apprehended, and a charge sheet was submitted on December 31.
The trial commenced in the court of the Additional Sessions Judge (First Court), Alipore, where statements from 19 witnesses were recorded. In a recently delivered verdict, the court sentenced both accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 each. Additionally, the court ordered a compensation payment of Rs.3 lakh to the victim. Commendations are extended to the investigating officers, Sub-Inspector Jayanta Das (OC, Trial Monitoring Cell), and all colleagues who contributed to the case.
