West Bengal, Jhargram: In a significant judgment that underscores the commitment of law enforcement to justice for victims of sexual violence, a local court in Jhargram district has sentenced Sameer Mahatoto20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a 16-year-old tribal minor from the Shabar community.
The incident occurred a year ago in Daichakuria village under Jamboni Police Station. The accused lured the minor girl into a relationship under the false promise of marriage and sexually exploited her, resulting in a pregnancy. When he later refused to marry her, the victim and her family approached the police.
Acting swiftly, SDPO Samim Biswas, who led the investigation, arrested the accused on the very same day the complaint was registered. The Jhargram District Police, known for their diligent approach, completed a detailed investigation and filed a comprehensive chargesheet without delay.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Investigating Officer and the District Trial Monitoring Cell, the case was fast-tracked, and the court delivered its verdict within just 11 months—a rare example of swift justice in such cases.
