<![CDATA[The Delhi Police had finally arrested an auto lifter involved in as many as 62 cases along with two accomplices. The accused had undergone plastic surgery to escape the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Romil Baaniya (south-east district) said Kunal, a resident of Amrit Puri, was arrested from south Delhi’s Nehru Place on October 13. The officer said Kunal used to steal vehicles and sell them to afford his expensive lifestyle. According to Mr. Baaniya,Kunal is not new to the business of car theft and resale and had got involved in 1997. He needed money to afford expensive gifts for his girlfriends. Once Kunal came under the police scanner, he underwent plastic surgery in 2012 to hide his identity. In the past, Kunal allegedly also attempted suicide at the CR Park police station in a bid to get out. The police said Kunal’s questioning led them to his accomplices Irshad Ali and Mohammad Shadab, who used to buy stolen cars from him. Kunal was involved in 62 cases of vehicle theft in Delhi and neighboring areas and was declared a proclaimed offender. The police have seized 12 cars following the arrests.]]>
