Thrissur Rural, Kerala, May 24, 2025: In a major initiative aimed at enhancing student safety and well-being, the Thrissur Rural Police, under the leadership of District Police Chief B. Krishnakumar IPS, organized a series of comprehensive review meetings for educational institutions from Play Schools to Colleges across the district. Held over three phases on May 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, the sessions saw the enthusiastic participation of 925 stakeholders, including teachers, principals, and PTA representatives from 383 institutions.
These review meetings were part of the state-level School Safety Program launched for the 2025–26 academic year. The sessions were conducted to ensure that all schools—government, aided, and unaided—adopt effective safety measures, with a strong focus on drug prevention, mental health, and legal awareness.
District Police Chief B. Krishnakumar IPS emphasized the vital role of educators in shaping future citizens and creating a secure and supportive environment in schools. “Schools should not only be places of learning but also safe havens where teachers and staff can work with confidence and students can grow without fear,” he said.
The review meetings also addressed key concerns raised by educators, including:
Legal protocols in cases of drug use or exploitation.
Early detection of mental health challenges and behavioral issues.
The importance of arts, sports, and personality development in preventing youth delinquency.
Special attention to girl students’ safety and emotional well-being.
Among the decisions taken:
Anti-drug awareness programs to be conducted in all schools on June 26, coinciding with International Day Against Drug Abuse.
Anti-ragging and legal literacy sessions in colleges.
Appointment of a dedicated police liaison officer for every school and college.
Establishment of School/College Protection Groups (SPG/CPG) within the first week of the academic year.
Mandatory Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) for school vehicle drivers and staff.
Creation of WhatsApp communication groups to notify parents immediately in case of student absences.
In a strong show of inter-departmental collaboration, officers including DYSPs Bijoy PR, Suresh KG, Bijukumar PC, and Raju VK, along with Station House Officers from across the Thrissur Rural district, played active roles in executing the program.
The District Police Chief also highlighted the Kerala Police’s commitment to emergency and digital safety. Citizens were reminded of crucial helplines:
ERSS (112) for all emergencies.
1930 for reporting cybercrime.
1098 for child protection.
Yodhavu WhatsApp (9995966666) to confidentially report drug-related activities.
Further, schools were encouraged to make use of free counseling services available at Irinjalakuda, Chalakudy, Kodungallur DYSP offices and the Women’s Cell, ensuring at least one counseling day per month per institution.
“This multi-pronged approach—covering safety, mental health, drug prevention, and legal empowerment—reflects our unwavering commitment to nurturing safe learning environments,” said Chief Krishnakumar IPS. “By uniting educators, parents, and law enforcement, we can build a safer, stronger future for our children.”
With strong participation and proactive policies, Thrissur Rural Police is setting a shining example of how community policing and education can come together for the greater good.
