Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu, July 7: Demonstrating their commitment to justice and swift legal proceedings, the Ariyalur District Police successfully secured a life imprisonment sentence for an accused in a 2023 murder case.
The case pertains to the murder of Manohar (44), son of Rajangam, a resident of Kovil Esanai North Street near Venganur. A long-standing personal enmity existed between Manohar and Vijayakanth (37), a lorry driver from the same locality. Despite attempts at reconciliation by local elders, tensions persisted.
On April 19, 2023, an altercation reportedly took place between a drunken Manohar and Vijayakanth’s wife, Gauthami, while she was home alone. Upon returning from work the following morning, Vijayakanth, angered by the incident, allegedly attacked Manohar with an iron rod near the Ayyanar temple, leading to his death.
Acting promptly, the Venganur Police registered a case and apprehended the accused. The matter was taken up by the Principal Sessions Court in Ariyalur, where Hon’ble Judge Malarvalandina pronounced the verdict on July 7, 2025. The accused, Vijayakanth, was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined ₹10,000. He has since been lodged in Trichy Central Jail.
The Ariyalur Police Department has been commended for their efficient investigation and thorough case presentation, which contributed to the timely delivery of justice.
