Erode, Tamil Nadu, July 12: In a decisive operation against narcotics, the Erode District Police, under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Ms. Sujatha, carried out a targeted raid in the Panikampalayam area of Perundurai, acting on credible intelligence inputs.
The raid was launched based on confidential information that illegal storage and sale of banned substances, including ganja, were taking place in localities predominantly inhabited by migrant workers from northern states. SP Sujatha, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Shanmugam and his team, personally oversaw the operation to ensure thorough enforcement.
During the sweep near the VPR Bharat Gas Godown in Panikampalayam, police recovered 3 kilograms of ganja hidden by an unidentified individual. A case has been registered under Erode Prohibition Crime No. 128/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act (Sec 8 (c) r/w 20(b)(ii)(B)).
Reaffirming their commitment to eradicating illegal substances from the district, the Erode Police Department has issued a stern warning against those involved in selling illicit liquor, narcotics, banned lottery tickets, and tobacco products. Authorities emphasized that such offenders would face strict legal action, including proceedings under the Goondas Act.
The police further assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, encouraging public cooperation in building a drug-free society.
