<![CDATA[The Delhi Police on Friday arrested a man for duping 30 professors of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on pretext of selling them residential plot in the city. He has been sent to judicial custody. The Delhi Police told that Gurugram resident Hitesh allegedly cheated people by taking money and promising them residential land in Delhi. A cheating case has been registered against Hitesh on the complaint of Noble-Socio Scientific Welfare Organisation (NSSWO), a society comprising 30 JNU professors. The police said that the society entered into a Joint Development Agreement with the accused to purchase residential flats. The accused assured the complainants that the ancestral agriculture land he was selling was free from encumbrances and could sell it to the society for residential purposes. As per the agreement, the complainants paid around Rs.1.44 crore to the accused as an advance. When the accused was unable to furnish further formalities, the professors got suspicious. They cross-checked the credentials of the land and its owner and found out that Hitesh had already executed two more agreements to sell the same property to different parties, said the police. During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the accused had already given a statement in court during proceedings of a civil suit filed by his estranged wife that “I will not sell or create any third party interest in the suit property to deprive the rights of the plaintiff”.
