Kottayam, Kerala, October 25, 2025: Demonstrating swift and efficient investigation, the Ettumanoor Police have successfully arrested the accused involved in a gold theft case within 24 hours of the incident, recovering a gold necklace weighing about two and a half pavans, worth approximately Rs.2.5 lakh.
The incident occurred in the early hours of October 24, 2025, when the accused barged into a shop near Athirampuzha Kurishupalli on the western shore of Athirampuzha and deceitfully stole the gold necklace from an 80-year-old shopkeeper.
The accused, identified as Jins Thomas (21 years), a resident of Jeevan Villa, Pallipad, Naduvattam, Alappuzha, had befriended the elderly trader under the guise of purchasing goods. During one of his visits, he expressed interest in buying a similar necklace for his mother. When the unsuspecting shopkeeper removed the ornament to show it, the accused seized the opportunity, snatched the necklace, and fled the scene on a scooter.
Following a detailed investigation and technical analysis, Ettumanoor Police traced the suspect’s movements and apprehended him from Haripad, before the completion of 24 hours.
The prompt action was carried out under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Akhil Dev, along with SCPO Jomi, CPO Maraya Sabu, and CPO Aneesh V.K. The Ettumanoor Police team has been commended for their quick response, professionalism, and effective teamwork in bringing the accused to justice in record time.
