Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In view of the upcoming Pongal celebrations, the Tirunelveli City Police have made comprehensive security arrangements to ensure that the public can celebrate the festival safely and peacefully at temples, commercial areas, entertainment venues, and other crowded locations across the city.
The enhanced security plan has been implemented under the orders of City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Manivannan, IPS, and coordinated under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners of Police Vinoth Santharam (East), Madhan, IPS (West), and Vijayakumar (Headquarters).
Across all police station limits in the city, a fleet of patrol vehicles—including 9 armed two-wheeler patrol units, 9 four-wheeler patrol vehicles, and 3 Pink Patrol vehicles dedicated to women’s safety—has been deployed for round-the-clock patrolling. In addition, 12 more two-wheeler patrol vehicles have been added to strengthen field presence.
To curb traffic violations and ensure public safety, intensive vehicle checks are being conducted at 7 checkpoints in the city and at major junctions. Strict action is being taken against those driving under the influence of alcohol, over speeding, creating public nuisance, or violating traffic rules.
Further, 600 additional police personnel have been deployed at busy intersections, public gathering points, and festival venues to manage crowds and ensure seamless movement.
The Tirunelveli City Police have urged citizens to cooperate with security measures and celebrate Pongal with joy, caution, and responsibility.
