Chandrapur, Maharashtra: In a significant action against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sales Officer of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Chandrapur, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1,00,000 from a complainant.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on 16 January 2026 based on a written complaint alleging that the accused demanded a bribe of ₹2,00,000 to facilitate the handover of an HPCL retail outlet to the complainant’s wife, who is the proprietor of the outlet. When the complainant expressed his inability to arrange the entire amount, the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹1,00,000 as part payment on 17 January 2026, insisting the remaining amount be paid after completion of the work.
Acting swiftly, the CBI laid a trap on 17 January 2026 and apprehended the officer red-handed while accepting the bribe. The accused was taken into custody on the spot.
Officials stated that further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
