Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: A brave citizen was commended by the City Police Commissioner for his courageous act in preventing a chain-snatching incident under the limits of the Thachanallur Police Station.
On 19.02.2026 at around 8:30 AM, on Madurai Road, an unidentified individual attempted to snatch the chain of an elderly woman while riding a two-wheeler. Murugan, a resident of Thachanallur (Mangalagudiyurup), acted swiftly and apprehended the suspect, preventing the crime and assisting in maintaining public safety.
In recognition of his bravery and civic responsibility, City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Manivannan personally met Murugan son of Pechimuthu and honored him with a shawl as a token of appreciation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) V. Vinoth Shantharam was also present during the felicitation.
The Commissioner praised Murugan’s courage and presence of mind, highlighting the importance of community participation in preventing crime and supporting law enforcement efforts.
