Thrissur, Kerala: In a significant verdict, the Multi Fast Track Special Court, Vadakkancherry, sentenced Sumesh alias “Freakon,” a native of Panangattukara, to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹35,000 for attempted murder and causing grievous injuries.
The case pertains to an incident that occurred on 26-02-2023 at Varavoor Industrial Park, where the accused attacked the victim during a dispute that arose while the complainant’s relative and the fourth accuseds were engaged in a discussion.
The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Fakhruddin of Cheruthuruthy PoliceStation, who later filed the charge sheet. The prosecution examined 12 witnesses and produced 23 documents before the court.
Special Public Prosecutor E.A. Seenath represented the prosecution. Assistant Sub-Inspector Geetha P.R. served as Liaison Officer, while CPO Shamim assisted the prosecution team.
The accused is currently lodged in Kannur Central Jail in connection with a separate KAAPA case. Officials stated that the trial was expedited following directions aimed at ensuring speedy proceedings in cases involving habitual offenders.
The conviction marks a strong step toward ensuring justice and reinforcing law enforcement efforts against violent crimes in the district.
