Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu: In a decisive action against the sale and distribution of banned tobacco products, the Thiruvarur District Police successfully destroyed 3,328 kilograms of gutka that had been seized in criminal cases registered under the limits of Valangaiman Police Station and Thiruthuraipoondi Police Station.
Following due legal procedures, permission was obtained from the competent court to dispose of the confiscated contraband. Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Mr. Karun Karat, I.P.S., on March 3, 2026, the seized gutka was completely destroyed by incineration.
The destruction process was carried out under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Deputy Superintendent of Police, in the presence of officials from the Food Safety and Prevention Unit, Village Administrative Officers, and police personnel, ensuring transparency and adherence to legal protocols.
This action highlights the firm commitment of the district police to curb the illegal sale of banned substances and safeguard public health. The proactive enforcement measures taken by the police department have been widely appreciated as a strong step toward maintaining law and order and protecting the well-being of the community.
