Mysore, Karnataka: In a major success for wildlife protection and conservation efforts, personnel of the Bandipur Special Task Force (STF) have arrested two individuals allegedly involved in illegal wildlife hunting and seized a firearm, ammunition, and other equipment used for poaching activities.

Acting on credible intelligence and maintaining vigilant surveillance in the forest region, STF personnel launched a targeted operation to curb unlawful hunting activities that pose a serious threat to wildlife. During the operation, the team intercepted two suspects who were allegedly engaged in hunting activities within or around the protected forest area.

The accused were taken into custody, and a search conducted by the STF led to the seizure of a gun, live bullets, and various hunting implements believed to have been used for poaching wildlife. The seized materials have been taken into official custody as evidence.

The swift action by the Bandipur STF prevented potential harm to wildlife and underscores the department’s commitment to safeguarding the rich biodiversity of the region. Illegal hunting not only threatens protected species but also disturbs the ecological balance of forest ecosystems, making enforcement efforts crucial for conservation.

Following the arrests, the accused were booked under relevant provisions of wildlife and forest protection laws. Investigators are examining whether the suspects were part of a larger poaching network and are working to determine if they were involved in previous wildlife-related offences.

The successful operation highlights the dedication, alertness, and professionalism of the Bandipur STF personnel, who continue to work tirelessly to protect wildlife and preserve the natural heritage of the forest. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against poaching and other wildlife crimes while encouraging the public to report any information related to illegal hunting activities.

The operation stands as another example of effective policing and coordinated enforcement aimed at protecting the environment and ensuring the safety of wildlife in one of the country’s most important conservation landscapes.
