Alappuzha, Kerala: In a major boost to the fight against narcotics and illegal tobacco trade, the Alappuzha District Police achieved significant success under Operation Tufan, registering 115 cases and arresting offenders during an intensive district-wide combing operation.
Acting on the directions of Ernakulam Range DIG Yatheesh Chandra, police teams conducted coordinated searches across Alappuzha district from 6:00 a.m. on 15 July 2026 to 6:00 a.m. on 16 July 2026. The special drive targeted drug traffickers, drug users, and individuals involved in the illegal sale of tobacco products.
The operation resulted in the registration of 115 cases, including 73 narcotics-related cases and 42 cases against illegal tobacco sellers. The large-scale enforcement drive reflects the district police’s determined efforts to curb substance abuse and dismantle illegal distribution networks.
Since the launch of Operation Tufan, the Alappuzha Police have registered 456 cases and arrested 526 accused. During the campaign, officers have seized 14 grams of MDMA, 3 kilograms of ganja, 15 grams of hashish oil, 56 Nitrazepam tablets, 4 narcotic ampoules, 19 cannabis plants, and 8 cannabis-infused sweets. The police have also ensured that offenders face legal consequences, with several accused being remanded to judicial custody.
Under the leadership of Alappuzha District Police Chief Vishnu Pradeep T. K. IPS, the district has adopted a proactive and intelligence-driven strategy against narcotics. Dedicated Operation Tufan teams have been constituted in every police station, with intensified surveillance, cordon-and-search operations, and continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas to prevent drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The sustained success of Operation Tufan highlights the Alappuzha Police’s unwavering commitment to creating a drug-free society, protecting young people from the dangers of narcotics, and ensuring safer communities through vigilant enforcement, coordinated policing, and decisive legal action against offenders.
