Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh: In a significant achievement reflecting the effectiveness of professional investigation and prosecution, the Srikakulam District Police secured the conviction of three accused in a liquor shop theft case registered at Kothuru Police Station.
The case dates back to March 2019, when burglars broke into the Naidu Wine Shop in Metturu village and stole 32 cases of liquor worth ₹1,87,170. Acting on the complaint filed by the shop clerk, the then Kothuru Sub-Inspector Y. Ravikumar promptly registered a case, conducted a thorough investigation, identified the accused, and filed a comprehensive charge sheet before the court.
During the trial, the prosecution effectively presented the evidence through Additional Public Prosecutor L. Nagabhushanam, resulting in the court finding the accused—Savara Mallesh, Savara Mokhalingam, and Savara Suryam—guilty of the offence.
The Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court, Kothur, sentenced each of the three accused to two years and six months of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 each. The court further directed that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
District SP K.V. Maheswara Reddy, IPS, appreciated the dedicated efforts of the investigating officers and the prosecution team, emphasizing that meticulous investigation and effective courtroom presentation ensured justice in the case. The conviction reinforces the Srikakulam Police’s commitment to protecting public property, bringing offenders to justice, and maintaining law and order through professional policing.
