Hyderabad, Telangana: In a proactive initiative to strengthen aviation safety, the Hyderabad Police conducted a comprehensive awareness meeting on the prohibition of laser beams and high-intensity sky lights in the vicinity of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad.
The meeting was chaired by Shri Tafseer Iqbal, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Hyderabad, in the presence of Shri B. Rajesh, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shamshabad, ACPs of Shamshabad and Adibatla, the Chief Operating Officer of GMR, and officials from the GMR Airside Safety Team. Around 70 owners and representatives of convention halls, function halls, banquet halls, and farmhouses located near the airport participated in the programme.
Officials explained that laser beams, searchlights, moving beam lights, and other high-intensity lights directed toward the sky can distract pilots, create glare, and interfere with aircraft during take-off and landing, posing a serious threat to flight safety. Venue owners and event organisers were instructed to avoid the use of such lighting, educate decorators, DJs, and lighting contractors about the restrictions, and immediately discontinue these lights whenever directed by the Police, Airport Authorities, CISF, DGCA, or Air Traffic Control.
The Hyderabad Police also warned that violations would invite legal action under the Aircraft Rules, 1937, DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
This awareness initiative reflects the Hyderabad Police’s commitment to preventive policing, public education, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the safe operation of aircraft and the highest standards of aviation safety around RGIA.
