Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh: Mandasa Police arrested four persons in connection with a chain-snatching case reported within the limits of Mandasa Police Station. The arrests were made on September 21, 2026, following sustained investigation into the incident.
According to SI Krishna Prasad, the accused were identified as Chandan Maharana (26), Sangeetha Maharana (31), Bhagyashree Maharana (32), and Rajendra Maharana (32), all from Odisha.
Police investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly conducted reconnaissance in and around Kanchili and Mandasa before deciding to commit chain-snatching offences for illegal financial gain.
On August 28, 2026, the accused allegedly targeted a woman at Venkata Varadarajapuram village, snatched a gold chain from her neck and fled from the spot on two motorcycles.
Acting on the investigation, Mandasa Police traced and apprehended the four accused near the NH-16 bridge at Kothapalli on September 21 while they were allegedly proceeding towards Palasa to sell the stolen gold.
Police seized two motorcycles bearing registration numbers OD 07 AQ 7642 and OD 08 X 7664 in connection with the case.
The arrested persons were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
