Udupi, Karnataka: Kollur Police have successfully arrested the prime accused in a cattle theft case after CCTV footage showing a stray cow being forcibly taken away in a white Swift Dzire car surfaced on September 29, 2026.
Based on a complaint from local residents, Kollur Police Station registered Crime No. 57/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, and Motor Vehicles Act.
The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Kundapur Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police H.D. Kulkarni and the supervision of Byndoor Circle Inspector Shivakumar.
A police team led by Kollur Police Station Sub-Inspector Vinay M. Korlahalli, along with Head Constable Nagendra and Police Constables Rudresha, Naveen Kumar, Vilas Rathod and Nagaraja, conducted a focused investigation and successfully traced the accused.
The prime accused, Mohammed Sinan, 20, son of Aboobakkar Siddiq, a resident of Thotada Mane, Gulvadi Post and Village, Kundapur, was arrested. Police also seized the vehicle allegedly used in the offence. The accused was subsequently produced before the court.
Police have identified two other individuals allegedly involved in the case, and efforts are continuing to trace and apprehend them.
During the investigation, police also found that Mohammed Sinan is allegedly involved in five other cattle theft cases registered at different police stations within the Kundapur Sub-Division.
The swift action by Kollur Police demonstrates the importance of CCTV surveillance, local cooperation and systematic investigation in detecting offences and bringing accused persons before the law.
