<![CDATA[An Inter-State Crime Information Secretariat will soon be set up to assist the police forces of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi to effectively coordinate and share information to restrain criminal activities. The new institution will try to stop the activities of organised criminals and gangsters, and prevent smuggling of illicit weapons and narcotics in the National Capital Region, especially in the border areas. The decision was taken during the first meeting of the Inter-State Crime Coordination Committee of the four States in Gurugram. Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar addressed the meeting and told officials that the idea for the committee was conceptualised during his informal meeting with U.P. Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath. The committee is expected to hold meetings every four months. The agenda for the meeting was planned by Haryana DGP Mr. Baljit Singh Sandhu in consultation with DGP U.P., DGP Rajasthan and the Delhi Police Commissioner. In a joint briefing held after the meeting, Haryana Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mr. Mohd. Akil said that the officers deliberated upon the various types of inter-State crimes and strategies to nab such criminals. He said that it was also decided that regular meetings would be held between the Crime Branch, the CIA, and Special Task Force officials as well as border SHOs. Telephone numbers of police officers will also be shared to make coordination easier. The four States will also appoint a senior-level Nodal Officer each for real-time sharing of information. Mr. Akil said that Haryana sought cooperation from all States, especially Uttar Pradesh, to smash the criminal network engaged in manufacturing and supply of illicit weapons in border areas. “It will be a big achievement if we collectively prevent the manufacturing, transportation and procurement of illicit weapons. Haryana has also sought cooperation from Rajasthan in preventing illegal mining,” he added. Mr. Akil said that the next meeting of the committee will be held in Noida.]]>
