<![CDATA[A few lakhs of rupees have been recovered by the police from two women who were arrested on June 27 for stealing jewellery from a house in Vivek Vihar by posing as domestic helps, the police said on Monday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Ms.Nupur Prasad said the women were arrested five days after a complaint was lodged on June 23 by a member of the Ahuja family, which resides in Vivek Vihar’s D-Block. The complainant told the police that two women, who identified themselves as Pooja and Preeti, approached his building’s security guard and said they were looking for work. The security guard then made them meet the complainant’s wife. Ms. Prasad said that the 2 women had come around 7.30 a.m. The complainant’s wife told them to come at 10 a.m. and start working. They came around 9 a.m. and left around 11 a.m. They said they worked at other places as well. Later when the complainant’s wife checked her locker she realized that her jewellery were missing. The family then approached the police, after which a case was registered and an investigation was taken up. Ms. Prasad said that the CCTV footage near the house was obtained that showed the 2 women taking an auto-rickshaw. The auto driver was then identified and questioned. She said that the auto driver said that he dropped them at Dhaula Kuan. CCTV footage of the area showed that the women took another auto from there. The second auto driver revealed that he had dropped them near Delhi Cantonment flyover. The movement of the accused was then traced and they were arrested from Nangal Rai. During interrogation, they told the police that they had committed such thefts in the past as well with the same stretegy.]]>
