GUWAHATI: Continuing with its crackdown on the Jehadi operatives, Assam police arrested seven Jehadi operatives including the cleric of Mosque. According to police based on a specific input an operation was launched at Daukhanagar and Amguri by Chirang district leading to successful apprehension of Joynal Abedin(32), Rezzak Ali(21), Soleman Ali(28), Dildar Ali(23), Md Nurul Islam(27, Rafiqul Islam and Ukhiluddin(33yrs)
Superintendent of police of Chirang, Shankar Brata Rai Medhi told ET, ” During their interrogation it has come to light that a physical training Camp was set up near Amguri Bazar in addition to the Daukhanagar Camp that was busted by Chirang Police in September 2015. Four mobile phones have been recovered from their possession. In Chirang district alone 29 Jehadis are arrested in last couple of years. Interrogation is on.”
He said, ” Joynal Abedin is the cleric of a Mosque in Amguri”. However people in the locality has resorted to protest and stated that they will take to bitter protest if the Cleric is not released. “Cleric is not keeping well and picking him up at midnight is not correct,” the protestors added. Last week police have arrested four Jehadi operatives. These operatives operate in the module of Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Inspector General of Police L.R. Bishnoi said, “, This Jehadi module is formed as self defence however potential of it being used for other terror activity cannot be ruled out.” This organization was formed after Muslim minority in Bodoland was attacked by the militant outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit (NDFB-S). Bodoland has witnessed ethnic riot between Bodos and Bengali speaking Muslim of 2012 which killed over 100 people and left over four lakh displaced.
