<![CDATA[Virudhunagar: The Virudhunagar West police arrested six persons and seized counterfeit currency notes with a face value of Rs.36.33 lakh along with printers and other equipment from the accused since Tuesday. The Superintendent of Police Mr. M. Rajarajan said a roadside hawker M. Abdul Kadhar aged 50, received an Rs.2, 000 note from one S. Gopinath aged 26, who purchased dresses for Rs.300. When M. Abdul Kadhar suspected the currency note to be counterfeit, he caught hold of him with the help of others and handed him over to the police. The police seized Rs.3, 200 fake currency from him and registered a case on a charge of possession and using counterfeit currency notes. Upon further investigation, the police found that one G. Surya aged 27, was also involved in the case. Both of them belonged to Sevalpatti. Based on their confession, the police seized Rs.20, 750 counterfeit notes from K. Murugan, 38, and Rs.9,200 counterfeit notes from M. Tiruvasagam, 32, of Kokkalancheri in Madurai district. In due course, the police arrested one S. Rajagopal aged 42, of Erichanatham in Virudhunagar district and S. Elango aged 52, of Thuvariman in Madurai district when they were smuggling counterfeit currency notes with the face value of Rs.1.37 lakh. During a raid at Elango’s house, where the counterfeit notes were said to be printed, the police seized counterfeit currency notes with the face value of Rs.34.63 lakh, two colour printers and other equipment. ]]>
