Erode: The Erode police arrested a woman who disguised herself as a male youth, and cheated a teenager aged 16 of 15 sovereign gold jewellery in Kodumudi.
The teenage girl is from Kodumudi who was under the care of her uncle, after her father’s demise. Posing as a male youth, the accused, Saroja introduced herself to the girl as Vishnubala, five months ago. She also told the girl that she was in love with her.
The woman who was disguised as a male told her that her family was undergoing financial crisis and asked the girl to help her. On being asked, the girl gave 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery to Saroja.
On being questioned by her mother, the girl said that she was not aware of the missing jewellery. Once again, she gave three sovereigns of jewellery to Saroja.
The girl’s mother, Rajamani filed a complaint with the Kodumudi police, who held inquiries with the girl. She told the police that she gave the jewellery to her ‘boyfriend’. During inquiry, the accused revealed that she was a woman.
The Police identified the accused as M. Karthikeyani alias Saroja aged 22 of Tiruppur District. They registered a case and the accused, Saroja was arrested.
