Dehradun: Encroachments into public locations such as roads have become a public nuisance as the pedestrians who walk by the road do not get the footpath constructed for their use and are forced to use the road to walk and this puts the pedestrians in danger of being hit by ongoing vehicles and the increase in the occurrence of accidents. To prevent these unpleasant incidents from happening the Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) issued directions to take strict legal actions against re-encroachers and temporary encroachment at public places and main markets. Following the direction issued by the SSP, the district police arrested seven people under section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) on Sunday. The arrested persons were presented in front of City Magistrate.
The arrested people are all shop keepers and have been identified as, Yakub, 28 , Irshad,28, Muskeem,25, Shakeel alias Sonu,25, Salman,22, Gaurav Kumar, all have a shop each at Araghar Sabji Mandi and Rakesh Kumar has a fruit shop at Araghar Sabji Mandi.
On Sunday, November 17, six shopkeepers were issued challan under sections 83 of Police Act by Kotwali police. The encroachers were given warning earlier that if they were found again, legal actions will be taken against them.
The ongoing traffic is affected by the pedestrians walking on the road and results in the slow movement of vehicles.
