Coimbatore: The Coimbatore city Police have already started cracking down this year as 1,140 cases of drunken driving have been registered in the city from January 1. To prevent fatal accidents in the city, Coimbatore city Police have been booking at least 60 cases of drunken driving every day “We don’t collect spot fine for drunken driving as we sent the report to the court. The drunken drivers are fined Rs 10,000 each by the court,” During the weekend special drive, the whole traffic police squad engages in vehicle checking till 11 p.m., after which teams involving two sub-inspectors continue the drive till 1 a.m. Apart from imposing fine, police will not allow persons caught for drunk driving to drive further.
The fatal accidents came down because of various efforts taken by the city police, “Now, we started cracking down on vehicles using LED lights and air horns. The court imposes a fine of Rs 10,000 for using LED lights on two-wheelers and other vehicles. In the case of air horns, we collect a fine of Rs 1,000 penalty,” more cases will be filed against people violating traffic rules.
