BENGALURU: A special team of the West Division of the city’s traffic police has arrested six people for wheeling in separate cases in Bengaluru West.
An eight-member team from different stations was formed on June 20 to investigate cases of wheeling in the western part of the city.
The team, led by the Magadi Road Traffic Inspector, takes action based on local complaints and alerts through social media. These alerts inform them about dangerous bike stunts that happen on highways and other busy roads.
In the last nine days, the team has registered six wheeling cases in the western division. Three cases have been handed over to Magadi Road Traffic Police, two to Vijayanagar and one to Kengeri for further investigation.
A team official said, ‘If we find any modifications in the vehicles, we will inform the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to cancel the registration of the vehicle after a thorough inspection. Driving licenses will be suspended with immediate effect.
The team is scrutinizing videos and information shared on social media to identify repeat offenders and arrest them.
Offenders will be booked under IPC Section 279 (rash driving or riding in public) and Section 189 (punishment for racing and speed trials) of the Indian Motor Vehicles (IMV) Act. Without driving license or not wearing helmet, they will be additionally booked under Section 3(1) r/w 181 or 129 of IMV.
