Haryana: Drugs are being smuggled from Nepal and Odisha through newly discovered routes, presenting a significant challenge for law enforcement in Haryana. In response, the Haryana Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking. Between January and July 2024, they successfully arrested 269 high-profile drug smugglers involved in 172 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, specifically related to commercial quantities. The legal consequences for these individuals are severe: they will be denied bail for several years, and if convicted, they face a minimum prison sentence of ten years. This stringent approach underscores the state’s commitment to combating the drug menace and ensuring strict penalties for offenders.
